friends who give you books

I finished my degree at Winchester art school with an overdraft,   -  miniscule in scale if making a comparison to my daughter's generation of graduates!   My plan was to get a night job and to apply to do an MA during the day, and then to get on with the business of being an artist...... 20 or so years later I stated painting again, in amongst earning money.  I have had some interesting jobs, but there was always this struggle in my mind about wanting to be a serious and respected artist.

I was listening to the radio, and heard Adam Phillips talking about this notion of unlived lives, and it felt like he was describing something I'd experienced.  And then what do you know, a friend of mine has just given me his book,   'Missing Out'  by Adam Phillips,  I read on.....
